Permits

Obtaining a Land Permit

Groote Eylandt archipelago is Aboriginal freehold land and an area of high conservation value. It was declared an Indigenous Protected Area in 2006, part of Australia’s National Reserve System. Visitors MUST have a permit to go off-lease. Written permission via the ALC is required to visit all other areas.

Lease areas are:
> Mine sites
> Airport
> Rowell Highway
> Alyangula town

Recreational Permits

Applications for the 2011 Recreation Permits will be available from the Anindilyakwa Land Council offices located at 30 Bougainvillea Drive Alyangula.

Please note that new General Conditions shall apply to the 2011 Recreation Permits.

The cost of the 2011 Recreation Permits are as follows:

  • $50.00 (GST inc) per person aged 16 years and over
  • Under 15 no permit required; and
  • Permits are now issued per person and each individual must sign an application form.

Short term visitor and work permits can also be obtained by contacting the ALC by phone on (08) 8987 6703 or by emailing Kristyne@anindilyakwa.com.au prior to your visit.

Liquor Permits

NO ALCOHOL is permitted outside designated areas. A liquor permit system operates within the archipelago. Information and permits are available from the Alyangula Police Station.
