Groote Archipelago & Community Access Permit
Before travelling to the Groote Archipelago you are required to apply for and hold a valid Groote Archipelago & Community Access Permit. This applies to non-Traditional Owner permanent residents and visitors. Non-Traditional Owner residents already living permanently on Groote Eylandt (including Alyangula residents) and Bickerton Island, who have not travelled will also need to apply for this permit.
Permits will only be issued to persons who satisfy the ALC's safety requirements who;
- have undertaken a 14-day isolation period, or satisfied a medical test that they do not have coronavirus;
- have not showed any symptoms of the coronavirus;
- have not been exposed to any coronavirus potential, or any persons with one or more signs or symptoms of the coronavirus.
Permit holders must satisfy the conditions of the permit on an ongoing basis. Any permit holder who leaves the Groote Archipelago will have to re-apply for a permit on their return, and complete a further 14-day isolation period.
Any permit holder whose eligibility for a permit changes must immediately inform the ALC.
GEMCO FIFO employees who do not go into community, or work with people who live in community, and Traditional Owners are not required to apply for a Groote Archipelago & Community Access permit.
Persons deemed to be Essential Service providers may also be exempted from some requirements within the permit. Further information about application for Essential Worker status is available under the Approved Remote Essential Workers tab.
Any person who enters an Aboriginal Community without a permit will be liable for the penalties under the Biosecurity Determination. Click here to find out more about the Biosecurity Determination.
