Huge ghost net to be turned into art

THE Umbakumba ranger team removed a big ‘ghost net’ from one of the Eastern beaches on Groote Eylandt in October.

Thousands of these abandoned fishing nets have washed up on shores, entangling and drowning marine animals including sea turtles and sharks.

The net was given it to the Anindilyakwa Art Centre to be transformed into unique pieces of art.
